Nelson has called Gibson County home for forty-eight years. He graduated from Milan High School and attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he studied Horticulture and Turf Management. In 2002, he opened Green Valley Farms, a full service nursery and sod farm in the Humboldt area. He has been married to his wife, Amy, for twenty years, and they are raising their four children in Medina. The children attend school in the Gibson County School District. Nelson and his family are members of Milan Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he serves as a Deacon and Elder.
Nelson has served as District 1 County Commissioner since 2010. Serving on the budget and highway committees, among others, has given him an in-depth understanding of county government, our strengths, and our opportunities for improvement.
As a candidate for the office of Gibson County Mayor, his focus will be on jobs, fiscal responsibility, forward thinking, and unity. If elected, he will leverage his experience in running a small business to help create a skilled community and workforce to set a higher standard for Gibson County. He believes that together we can work toward this goal as fiscally responsible conservatives to create investment, innovation, and growth. We can unite our communities by having a shared vision of the future of Gibson County. He feels a huge responsibility to leave Gibson County better than he found it for our children and grandchildren.
